ONC Subsite
A Refreshed Data Site Experience
ONC’s Health IT Research & Analysis (Data) page provides access to analysis, reporting, and datasets that monitor health information technology trends and programs and policies.

Intro
Redesigning The Old Experience
The Data section of ONC is a place where Health IT professionals can go to reference data related to their field. With the re-design of the ONC site, the data site was a sub site that needed its own focus and re-imagining.
A Sluggish Browsing Experience
Previous Data Site Design
Below are the main pages on the Data site, a user lands on the landing page where they can view data under one of the four data types; Apps, Quick Stats, Data Briefs, and, Datasets. The second page shows the listing page for the Quick Stats, the third page shows detail view of a Quick Stat.
A Sluggish Browsing Experience
Creating a Smoother Experience
One of the pain points was the process of looking at or scanning different data items. The old flow (pictured below) involved clicking on a post in the listing then clicking back and remembering what you were just looking at and opening another post.

A Bold Refresh Aimed at Content Exploration
The Updated Experience
The video below demonstrates the updated redesign. Clicking a data type opens a page where a post is shown in the main frame on the right while on the left, the user is able to explore different quick stats.
✴
Quickly view data sorted by type or view all data.
✴
Left hand data list allows for the user to stay focused and “flip” through different data posts in a consistent viewing experience.
✴
The landing displays “Trending” and “Recently Added” data posts in a carousel.

Updated Landing Page
The updated hero zone reflects updated ONC branding. The search bar has quick links to all data and to the four different types of data. Advanced search is also available. Carousels are added linking out to trending recently added posts.

Updated Data Detail Page
Now when viewing a data post, a persistent left hand sidebar displays other data posts in that same category allowing user to quickly view more data. Within the data post, displaying the source and citation was important so that is displayed within the data post but can be hidden allowing the content of the data to take up full width.
My Process
Multiple wireframe options
Throughout this project, it was important to iterate and explore multiple options when tackling an experience. When possible, we would user test to see if what we were exploring was successful. Below is a sample of the wireframing exploration for the landing, listing, and detail pages.
What I Learned
This portion of the ONC design project was exciting because it differed from the main site re-designed and challenged me in different ways. We were dealing with a large amount of data posts that needed a way to experience and navigate easily.
